THE HARBOR GROUP IS MEETING WEDNESDAY!

Short Ribs! At the Cookhouse! Don’t bring your lunch that day. Here’s their announcement.

Rail Runners at Humboldt Bay

The guest speaker for this month’s Humboldt Bay Harbor Working Group  luncheon will be Kim Metlan, owner of Oregon Coast Rail Runner will join Chris and Uri Driscoll to share with you the history of rail biking and its future along Humboldt Bay.

Rail Runners at Humboldt Bay is in the process of bringing pedal powered rail bikes to Humboldt County.  While human powered rail vehicles have been around for over a century this very popular activity has only recently become a recreational opportunity.  After a short presentation and video there will be time for questions related to how this unique opportunity fits into the recreational access to Humboldt Bay.

I encourage you to attend the luncheon. It is important for our community to stay informed about our Harbor and understand the Harbor District’s role and plans for developing the Port of Humboldt Bay as an international seaport.

The luncheon is scheduled to be held at the Samoa Cookhouse for Wednesday, February 27, 2019.  The luncheon is a “no host” event. Lunch starts being served at noon; and the presentation starts around 12:30.

Beef Short Ribs will be served for lunch at $16 and soup and salad is available for $12.  Please RSVP at 707-441-1974 or charles.bean@yahoo.com.

SHORT RIBS AND RANDOM THOUGHTS, Feb 20, 2018

On Sunday night, Alec Baldwin tweeted, “I wonder if a sitting President exhorting his followers that my role in a TV comedy qualifies me as an enemy of the people constitutes a threat to my safety and that of my family?”  Good question.

From CNN Business: A new book by Andrew McCabe says Trump didn’t believe US intel reports about a North Korean missile launch because “he thought that N.K. did not have the capability to launch such missiles. He said he knew this because Vladimir Putin had told him so.”   Well, thats all we need in the White House, a dummy who believes what Putin tells him.  Don’t think about it too long-  it’s pretty scary. This week also revealed that  Trump is such a jackass he ASKED Japanese PM Abe to nominate him, Trump,  for the Nobel Peace Prize.  Abe apparently complied, being too wise to argue with a fool.  Trump has also taken to trashing Jeff Sessions, his first supporter in the Senate.  Don’t expect loyalty from Trump. For loyalty, you need a dog and he doesn’t like dogs either.

FAST FOOD WATCH- In and Out to Open second Redding spot.  I’m not a big fan of I&O but I know folks who worship them,   in other words they feel about I&O the way I feel about CFA (Chic-Fil-A).   Read about it HERE.

While we’re at it, have you heard about the plan to Demolish the COW PALACE? The iconic COW PALACE? Everyone has a Cow Palace story. I attended the ’64 GOP convention there, the Goldwater convention. (No, we were not Republicans.) I was only a kid but it cured me of conventions for the rest of my life. Now the old girl is superfluous and they want to tear it down for more housing. Speaking of Bay Area housing, the $11M mansion owned briefly by Nicolas Cage on Francisco Street is for sale. See it HERE.

Now, for all of you planning to visit Washington DC to fight against The Wall, the Washingtonian provides a useful guide to nourishment. Read it HERE.
