Sen Ted Cruz, although he is obviously a vampire, has been observed eating and drinking in the DC area. He supped Monday night at Fogo de Chao, a Brazilian steakhouse that charges about $60 per head. That’s not bad for DC. The menu is HERE.
A tweet from Jerry Brown: “5 years ago today, California broke ground on the only high-speed rail in North America. 119 miles of rail have been built. China has 18,000. Long way to go, America — let’s keep moving! #IWillRide”
John Bolton is a pretty good lawyer, at least compared with the doofuses staffing the White House these days. Wouldn’t YOU love to hear his version of events? I sure would.
From POLITICO: — “Facebook sticking with policies on politicians’ lies and voter targeting,” by Alexandra Levine and Zach Montellaro: “Facebook is standing by its policies that allow politicians to lie to voters, while targeting their ads at narrow subsets of the public — decisions with vast implications for the more than $1 billion in online campaign messaging expected in this year’s elections. ” Read the whole thing HERE.

AT THE ZOO: one of the benes of a Zoo membership is the nifty Annual Report you get with gorgeous photos of the residents. Did you now that the Zoo had over 92,000 visitors, only half of whom were from Humboldt County? Did you know that the Zoo’s Learning Lab has been named in honor of Jeff and Sharon Lamoree ?? Well-deserved. Everyone should support the Zoo, one of our finest local attractions! Worth it just for the otters!
Now that Our Fake President is stammering through HIS FOURTH VERSION of the assassination story, his incompetence and that of his staff are on full display. There are ten more months of incompetence to get through before we can breathe easy. No one rock any boats.

NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS- Do you still make them? My resolution this year is to not make any more resolutions except for the following;
- Never try to return a package misdelivered by On-Trac. (long story)
- Try to support local businesses more. I’m tired of seeing all the closures.
- Get back on the list for Publisher’s Clearing House, which has not allowed me to enter their sweepstakes for several months now.
Re: 2 above, the latest local biz to hit the dust is Marcelli’s although the closure apparently only pertains to the tiny restaurant. I’m ashamed to say I never ate there! But I have been a steady customer, at Murphy’s, of their frozen ravioli, which makes a dandy quick meal, or the meat ones do anyway. (I find the spinach ones watery and tasteless)and I haven tried the cheese ones. Their standout is their SAUCE, which comes in little square boxes with a toylike metal handle. The SAUCE is outstanding and I’m glad it’s not going away.
@AndrewYang: “Hearing I’m a lot of people’s 2nd choice. This is actually a huge step toward becoming a lot of people’s 1st choice.”
And here’s the New York Time’s take, on the Soiemani attack, right HERE.
Sodden Thought: There are a million places on the planet to be on New Year’s Eve. Where you will never find me is at Times Square at midnight , waiting for that damn ball to drop. NEVER! NEVER!
That having been said, I HAVE been to Times Square. That was only four or five years ago, not in time to see the Bad Old Days when it was much more interesting. We stopped outside a Guy Fieri restaurant and didn’t go in. I admire Guy for his charity, and I use a couple of his recipes regularly ( have you tried his Pea Salad ? Recipe on request.) but I have yet to try one of his restaurants.
Heavy week ahead. Only a little over ten months to the election.
In the worst way, he wants a war. He wants to beat up on some country that can’t really fight back and declare a victory in time for the elections. He’s fired all the military types (“my generals”) who could have talked some sense into him and he doesn’t know enough about statecraft, OR warcraft to be playing with the big boys. Before you attack another country, there should be a strategy in place. The second-raters and sycophants surrounding Trump at Mar-A-Lago aren’t up to the job any more than he is. and Trump wouldn’t know a strategy if he hit one in the road. These are dark days.
