SHORT RIBS AND RANDOM THOUGHTS , April 19 2020
President Trump went from asserting “total authority” over the nation’s governors to a message of “it’s on you” in 48 hours this week. And his ‘press briefings” are just as unhinged as ever. From POLITICO, Ryan Lizza tells the tale HERE.
AND HOW MUCH IS YOUR LIFE WORTH? Our Fake President and his GOP enablers have made it clear . The decision to lift the coronavirus restrictions will be based not on science but on politics. The execrable Dan Patrick and other Trumpites are ready to throw you and me and everyone we know under the virus bus rather than listen to the scientists. Couldn’t this be construed as treason? Didn’t OFP take an oath to “protect and defend” the people of America? Yeah, I thought so.
HIS “BRIEFINGS” CONTAIN NO NEW INFORMATION yet they drone on day after day. He attacks the Governors and anyone else who he thinks hasn’t praised him enough since the last news cycle. In a way, these “briefings” are beneficial because there may be a few Americans who are still unaware that our President is an ignorant and childish bully. For me, the only value is the followup commentary by the pundits, yes, even Fox! He may think he’s clever to use the taxpayer-funded “briefings” to promote his re-election but he’s “too clever by far” as they used to say in the old spy movies. Every “briefing” is just another chance to folks to get SICK OF HIM and the main reason Trump is going to lose in November is that EVERYONE iS SICK OF HIM. That’s the most astute political analysis I can offer you today.

IN THE ABSENCE OF LEADERSHIP, Part Two
The country needs a leader. Instead we have a TV comic who tries to escape responsibility at every opportunity. Did you see the “briefing” in which someone asked him if he’d seen Alex Azar’s warning on the virus and his response was, “No, I didn’t see it and I didn’t look for it either.” Hey, that’ s leadership! Right? At this point the only question is : how many people will die because of his pig-headedness. He already has blood on his hands- the question is, how much.
Despite all Trump’s huffing and puffing, re-opening the country is NOT his decision to make. Thank God. Manu Raju explains it HERE.
OR this from Politico: Donnie must not have many friends. Trump acknowledged he’s battled with Newsom in the past on borders, the environment and more, but now says: “Honestly… I’ve gotten very friendly with Gavin Newsom. He’s done a very good job here. … I mean, he’s been, I think, sort of a friend of mine for a long time. Don’t get to see him much.”
(From POLITICO) THE PRESIDENT signaled this morning that he believes he’s the sole individual who can reopen the economy in individual states, which, according to the preponderance of evidence and the Constitution, is a questionable point of view — to say the least. PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP tweeted: “For the purpose of creating conflict and confusion, some in the Fake News Media are saying that it is the Governors[‘] decision to open up the states, not that of the President of the United States & the Federal Government. Let it be fully understood that this is incorrect…. “….It is the decision of the President, and for many good reasons. With that being said, the Administration and I are working closely with the Governors, and this will continue. A decision by me, in conjunction with the Governors and input from others, will be made shortly!” OF COURSE, there is little evidence that this is true. Governors have made decisions under their authority as state executives that it is unsafe to conduct commerce, and it’s not totally clear under what authority the president believes he can force states to reopen. “Police power,” as it is known, is given to the states from the Tenth Amendment to the Constitution.
