“IN THE ABSENCE OF LEADERSHIP”

Some  pundit recently started a paragraph with that phrase.  I love it.

Philip Rucker and Robert Costa write: “In the three weeks since declaring the novel coronavirus outbreak a national emergency, President Trump has delivered a dizzying array of rhetorical contortions, sowed confusion and repeatedly sought to cast blame on others…” (WaPo)   Well put.

Trump can fake it all he wants,  but the American people have caught up with him. He has barged into the daily corona briefings as if they were  his re-election  rallies,  which works fine for him. President Bonespurs wants to call him elf a “military President” but takes NO responsibility,  whining that “the  Governors” are in charge of the country now.  Thank God some of them are stepping up. He takes the center space but when anyone asks a question he doesn’t want to deal with, he calls over one of his lackeys,  OR he attacks the reporter who had the nerve to ask. It’s the Trump show all the way  BECAUSE THAT’S THE ONLY WAY HE KNOWS HOW TO GOVERN.  He only knows TV-  not  law, not logistics, not government- only TV.  How long will the networks give him a free two-hour show everyday?  How long will people go on watching it?  For the first couple of weeks I watched every minute.  Now I leave the sound off.  Friday was the bottom of the barrel-  his creepy son-in-law reading off THE NEWLY REWRITTEN WEBSITE  implying that the national stockpile of PPE is “OURS”  to be doled out to the President’s buddies as “WE” see fit.  This is a nightmare even worse that the virus.

Trump not only exhibits no leadership, he turns on his earliest supporters viciously, but you knew that. .  The WAPO summarizes  it HERE.

Stay safe and try not to let every new offense get you down. His latest move is against mail voting Why would he want all those old, poor people to vote? Let’s not let him get away with it . Every night on Brian William’s show they announce tje number of days until the election. I think it’s about 200 right now. Keep your powder dry.

SHORT RIBS AND RANDOM THOUGHTS, April 5, 2020

LARRY DAVID ON TRUMP:  “When we speak about the president, Mr. David marveled, ‘You know, it’s an amazing thing. The man has not one redeeming quality. You could take some of the worst dictators in history and I’m sure that all of them, you could find one decent quality. Stalin could have had one decent quality, we don’t know!'” NYT

TRUMP AGAINST THE PRESS CONTINUED:

CBS News White House correspondent Weijia Jiang became the latest reporter at the daily briefings to become the subject of Trump’s ire. Jiang asked about Jared Kushner’s bizarre statement from the day before, when Trump’s son-in-law said, “The notion of the federal stockpile was it’s supposed to be our stockpile. It’s not supposed to be states’ stockpiles that they then use.”

“What did he mean by ‘our’?” Jiang asked Trump, who immediately resorted to calling it a “gotcha” question. Trump scolded Jiang, claiming she tried to make Kushner’s statement sound “so bad” and saying it was obvious Kushner meant “our” as referring to the entire country. The President continued lashing out, telling Jiang, “You ought to be ashamed of yourself. You know what? You ought to be ashamed.” When Jiang tried to press Trump further, the President claimed he had given her the “perfect answer” and scolded her once more for supposedly asking the question “in a very nasty tone.”   Have you noticed  he uses the term “nasty ” for women who ask tough questions?  From CN BUSINESS; When Yamiche Alcindor pointed out that other countries have conducted more test per capita, Trump told her she should not be asking that “snarky” question but instead saying “congratulations” to the job his admin has done. Meanwhile, Trump continued to give a boost to the small cable channel OAN. “OAN, please — OAN,” Trump said, calling on a fringe personality from the small cable channel who has peddled conspiracy theories in the past…

Wolf Blitzer confronted Mike Pence during an interview on Wednesday, noting all the specific times that Trump downplayed coronavirus. Pence responded, saying, “The President is an optimistic person…” (CNN)  I guess thats another way of saying,  he lies.
