MAIL HIM OUT? — “‘My biggest risk’: Trump says mail-in voting could cost him reelection,” by POLITICO’s Alex Isenstadt: “The president’s assertion that mail-in voting will endanger his reelection comes as states across the country are rushing to accommodate remote voting in response to the coronavirus pandemic. Millions of voters could be disenfranchised if they decide to stay home on Election Day rather than risk contracting the virus at crowded polling stations.”

AND THEN: This morning, Trump doubled down by tweeting “Mail-In Ballots will lead to a RIGGED ELECTION!” and continued the drumbeat of wild accusations of fraud by warning that “MILLIONS OF MAIL-IN BALLOTS WILL BE PRINTED BY FOREIGN COUNTRIES” — a theory that Attorney General William Barr has also floated without citing any evidence.

BARABAK ON BIDEN — “Biden is not as disliked as Clinton, posing challenge to Trump,’’ by LATimes’ Mark Z. Barabak: “Joe Biden is old. He has a paper trail reaching back half a century. He is, by his own admission, a “gaffe machine” who regularly trips over his own tongue. He is not, however, as widely and viscerally disliked as the last Democratic nominee, Hillary Clinton, and that’s complicating President Trump’s reelection effort.”

AND HE’S GOT OTHER THINGS ON HIS MIND….Alex Trebek and his wife Jean have donated $500,000 to Hope of the Valley Rescue Mission to help fight the homelessness crisis in the Los Angeles area, David Williams reports. on CNN.

TRUMP on HANNITY Numerous political reporters concluded that the biggest bit of news from the TV event was Trump’s failure to answer this Hannity softball: “What are your top priority items for a second term?” Trump didn’t have an answer. He riffed for a while about “experience” but never answered the question.

“It’s a good question,” CNN’s Kaitlan Collins said, but Trump didn’t answer. She said “it’s difficult to think of another president being asked about their second term priorities and ultimately providing none, with just over four months to go before the election.

And of course you’re aware that it turns out Trump was briefed back in MARCH about Putin’s offering bounties to the Afghan soldiers who killed Americans. Nary a word of objection from our Commander in Chief. WHAT is his sweetie Putin holding over him? And how about that Mike Pence so bravely wearing a virus mask NOT at the corona task force briefing. What a man! And how about our CinC trying AGAiN to close down Obamacare so that 20M Americans will be without healthcare in the middle of a pandemic. Good thinkin’, Don!

THE NEW YORK TIMES’ EFFECT ON MAN- I subscribed to the offer from the NYT of $4.99 a month for the first year. I’m sorry to say it hasn’t been what I expected. I’ve already been subscribing to the Washington Post for awhile and I have to say I enjoy their prose a lot better. They do have a good Food section but I haven’t copied that many. recipes. I’m going to let it go when the year runs out but you should try it sometime. The travel section is good also.

THE JOYS OF TAKEOUT: I may never go to a “real” restaurant again. Why get dressed to go out when you can sprawl in front of the TV and pig out in privacy? We got an order from the Ichiban the other night that was outstanding. Love that Lemon Dragon Roll.!

127 DAYS TO THE ELECTION!

  1. You can get the print edition of the NY Times delivered to your door as the Chronicle distributor also carries this publication. Eureka, Arcata, Crescent City, Brookings and other towns can receive the same day publication as it is printed in Santa Rosa. (Reading the print edition is so much easier than reading it online.)
