Rep. @JaredHuffman in response to this POLITICO story: “I once took heat for calling Betsy DeVos ‘dumb as a bag of hammers.’ But after her 4 years as our Education Secretary, I now realize an apology is owed. To hammers.” Go, Jared!

AND THERE’S MORE from POLITICO:— “The French Laundry got more than $2.4M in PPP funding; 17x more than average Bay Area restaurants,” by ABC7’s Stephanie Sierra and Lindsey Feingold: “The French Laundry received two loans that were both approved on April 30, 2020. According to the SBA, the first loan was for more than $2.2 million to retain 163 employees. The second loan was for $194,656 to retain five employees.“ Them that has, gets, apparently.

(From the WAPO, which Trump likes to call “the Failing Washington Post”; In a memo to staffers on Thursday, Washington Post publisher Fred Ryan said “digital subscriptions increased by nearly 50%” in 2020, “bringing our total worldwide digital circulation close to 3 million.” Ryan also announced that “the last three months of 2020 have brought the highest digital advertising revenue in Post history,” which is a remarkable turnaround since the pandemic decimated the ad business in the springtime. Ryan said the news outlet’s performance “validates our view that there is a successful business model for quality journalism” and said The Post will be adding “more than 150 new positions” in 2021, “the most in a single year.”

CNN analyst Sam Vinograd tweeted: “A key part of emergency response is public messaging. Tonight, the U.S. government is under live attack, by Russia. Trump is tweeting diatribes not at Putin, but at Democrats…” (Twitter)

NOT GOING ANYWHERE — “Yes, Feinstein is the oldest U.S. senator. But she should be able to retire on her own terms,” by the LA Times’ George Skelton: “California Sen. Dianne Feinstein says she hasn’t thought about retiring soon despite some assertions that the 87-year-old lawmaker should step aside because her cognitive abilities have allegedly declined.”

Southern California home prices jump 11% in November,” by the OC Register’s Jeff Collins and Jonathan Lansner. Hmm. I thought they were all moving HERE.

And I suppose you’ve heard that our own Guy Fieri has raised M$21 for unemployed restaurant workers, ‘Way to go!
