Humboldt Democrats Honor Atkins, Gallegos

In a departure from tradition, the Humboldt County Democratic Central Committee held its “Democrat of the Year” dinner Friday night in Fortuna at the River Lodge.  Almost 200 Democrats gathered to honor former Humboldt County District Attorney Paul Gallegos and current but termed-out Eureka City Council member Linda Atkins for their accomplishments. It was a great evening and featured State Senator Mike McGuire who can rev people up more with a ten-minute speech than most pols can with cannon and fireworks. ( No auction this time, though.)

Among the attendees was former Eureka City Councilman Chris Kerrigan, just back from grad school in Belfast. The consensus was that this may be the first time the DOTY dinner was held in the South County,  but it won’t be the last. Congrats are in order to all who made it happen, including Ways and Means Committee chair Pam Cahill and Fortuna resident and HCCDC member  Richard Leamon, who was instrumental in steering the DOTY southward. A wonderful evening!
