Do you read the legal notices in the Times-Standard? It’s a lot like reading the obituaries.  Recently there were three “Notices to Creditors of Intended Bulk Transfer” on the same day. Sad!

The first was the transfer of “All stock in trade, fixtures, equipments, goodwill and inventory of that certain business known as Zoë Restaurant” at 2850 F Street in Henderson Center. This is a sad notice because everyone in Henderson Center was really hoping they’d make it.  I couldn’t figure out how they could support a restaurant  by only serving one meal a day!  Now the venue will be stripped of its restaurant  fittings and revert, apparently, to its previous existence as an unused drugstore. The transferee is listed as Uniquely Yours Catering in McKinleyville.  Best of luck to them.  They currently get 5 stars on Yelp and the owner previously owned the late,  lamented Hurricane Kate’s.  If you still have unredeemed gift cards from Zoë, you’d better get busy.

The second such Notice was of the transfer of fixtures etc including a liquor license from the CC Market in RioDell to something called JRR Inc. Not to worry! Humboldt’s best caterer (have you had their tri-tip? To die for!) is being taken over by some folks who are continuing the business, in place. I don’t get to Rio Dell often but I always stop at CC Market when I do.  Good prices on meats and good potato salad.  The market was listed for sale recently at over a mill, not surprising. The THIRD such notice advises of the transfer of all inventory etc of the Tin Can Mailman in Arcata, a store of which I HAVE NO KNOWLEDGE, for which I am ashamed. Some software developers from Davis have bought it. Good luck to them. At least they seem to be staying open. And life goes on….
